About the New Record
This record started during COVID lockdowns (stop me if you’ve heard that one before). I has been brainstorming and working on demos for Death is a Bastard, my heavy music project. But the way it works for me is that once the creative ideas start flowing, they come in all sorts of shapes and forms.
The first song that came was “The Good Old Days,” followed shortly by “Light it Up.” Knowing that these songs didn’t fit with Bastard, I decided to explore the idea of releasing an album under my own name.
I’ve never done that before. And I don’t know why if feels like a big deal to me. I’m a super relational person, so I love being in a band, or working on a project with others. But in this season of my life, a season that has been marked by a lot of pain, a lot of confusion, and a lot of change, I’m on a journey to find my center of gravity again. These songs have been an important part of that journey.
I plan to write a little bit about each song, sharing about its meaning and what I can remember about the song’s origin. But for now, just know that these songs are super meaningful to me (and to my wife!). I hope that you enjoy the songs, that they stir you, and that they help you love the important people in your life a little bit more.
